Jason's Lycian Way Challenge for Movember

About The Lycian Way Challenge

Hi there. My name is Jason Cronen. I’ve faced cancer twice now, first as a college student in 2004, and again nearly twenty years later, in April 2024, after several years of living and working in Asia.

As I continue to navigate treatment and recovery, this spring I’m hiking the 540-kilometer Lycian Way in southern Türkiye, one of the world’s oldest trading routes, to bring attention to men’s health and help expand access to rural, low-cost cancer screening.

This journey is more than a hike. Cancer changes how you understand time, distance, and strength, and this challenge reflects what it takes to keep moving forward when life is interrupted. Walking the same paths people have traveled for centuries, step by step, brings that perspective into focus. Every step honors those rebuilding their lives after cancer.

The Lycian Way Challenge supports Movember’s mission in men’s health and cancer survivorship, made possible by Trail Partners, Challenge Supporters, and friends worldwide. I’d be grateful to have you with us.

An ancient path, a modern challenge, and a hike driven by purpose and community.

Why I’m Walking the Lycian Way

The Lycian Way Challenge is my way of showing what someone living with cancer can accomplish, without pretending it’s easy. It’s about moving forward instead of being defined by what was lost.

With the support of Trail Partners and Challenge Supporters around the world, I’m raising funds to expand access to low-cost cancer screening in rural and underserved communities, where early detection can change everything.

A Path That Reaches Beyond Me

I created The Lycian Way Challenge while rebuilding my life and company after cancer returned. What began as a personal goal has grown beyond me, connecting new friends and supporters around the world who believe access to care should not depend on geography.

Endurance Is the Point of the Journey

Cancer doesn’t pause your life and hand it back neatly. There is no clean restart. You keep going through appointments and uncertainty. This 540-kilometer hike reflects that reality, the steady decision to keep moving when nothing feels certain.

Making Men’s Health Visible

Through this Challenge, I’m raising funds to provide low-cost cancer screening in rural and underserved communities across Asia, where early detection can change outcomes. It’s also about bringing men’s health into the open and reminding men they’re not walking alone.

About Movember

Movember is a global men’s health movement held each November, best known for the simple act of growing a moustache. The moustache is meant to be noticed. It sparks questions, starts conversations, and makes it easier to talk about men’s health in everyday life.

Alongside moustaches, Movember encourages people to take on challenges to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. Since 2003, the Movember Foundation has raised over $1 billion, helping fund life-changing programs and encouraging men to look after their individual health and each other.
